Kozuru Kuro is a bold imo (sweet potato) shochu from Komasa Jozo in Kagoshima, made with koganesengan sweet potato and black koji for a rich, earthy character. Expect a maple syrup-like sweetness on the nose, with a round, almost molasses-forward palate and subtle notes of dark fruit and fudge. Unlike some black koji imo shochu, Kozuru Kuro stays smooth and well-rounded rather than sharp or dry. Best enjoyed on the rocks or with hot water (oyu-wari) to bring out its natural sweetness. 24% ABV, 720ml.
