    What is Awamori?

Awamori is Okinawa's original distilled spirit, made from long-grain Thai rice and Okinawa's signature black koji (kuro-koji) — a process unique to the island and distinct from mainland Japanese shochu. It has a bold, full-bodied character with a warm, slightly smoky finish, and can range from young and vibrant to deeply mellow when aged into kusu (matured awamori). Awamori is traditionally enjoyed on the rocks or diluted with water, though it also makes a strong, flavourful base for cocktails. Its higher alcohol content and distinctive rice-forward aroma make it a favourite among spirit enthusiasts looking to explore Japan beyond sake and shochu.
